 Provide Affordable Housing: I really do not believe that most of those in politics today really understand what affordable housing really is. Just like Albert Einstein’s who’s theories also covered time he once said that time is relevant to the observer. In other words time would pass at a different rate if one person was standing on Earth and another was in a spaceship traveling into space near the speed of light. Well the same holds true for those of different income levels.
Affordable Housing is relevant to one’s income level. And if your living in Bay County Florida you may want to be in that spaceship traveling into space because that’s about as close as your going to get to affordable housing. (Paid in Full with your tax dollars from Uncle Sam).
Homes here in Bay County Range from 120 dollars per square foot to 170 dollars per square foot and higher. There is no affordable housing in that price range for most of our 911 responders at their level of income. The same hold true for single parents or married couples with children at home. Wages in this part of the country are below average and always have been. Affordable housing for most of our citizens with lower incomes would be around 32 to 40 dollars per square foot and the only way that can be found is if one buys a Factory Built Home. We need land for development of these communities so people really can have affordable housing for their families.
Those in our community who have been selling affordable housing are never invited to counsel meetings by the City or County to get there impute on this issue. Developers and Contractors seem to be the ones with their foot in the door these days and they’re in the business to make money as much as the market will bear! Affordable housing to me would be housing anyone could afford no matter how much they could invest.
One could ask if our local politicians really wanted to see home sold in our area everyone could afford why are roadblocks placed in there way with over regulation and restrictions where they can be placed. As your County Commissioner I will be working to make affordable housing a reality in our community for all.
