Improved Disaster Preparation : As your County Commissioner I would like to work out a comprehensive plan for evacuation in the event a major hurricane heads for Bay County. We have a large part of our population who don’t drive or have the financial resources to evacuate safely out of the area. We need to properly assess our current plan of action to maximize our efforts when needed. Most buildings in our area cannot withstand a Category 5 Hurricane and anyone foolish enough to try and ride it out my in up losing their lives.
Improve Elderly Affairs : Our older Americans who live among us are one of the greatest generations this country ever produced. They had to live through two world wars and the great depression. Their straight knowledge and sacrifice is why we still live as free Americans today. As your Commissioner I will fight anything that would diminish their quality of life such as tax increases. If possible lower existing taxes to allow their dollars to go farther.
The Old Bay County Train Station: This property has been setting for a long time and here again is another example of property with history that could be restored and used. This building and land has weathered many storms in its day however it may not withstand the wracking ball of the developers who only see condos and town homes. This property could best serve our community if it was given to our community’s children to be a headquarters for the Boy and Girl Scouts of America. They could oversee this property and it could also be turned into a train museum. The proceeds could help maintain this property, and add funds for proper scouting uniforms. If we don’t take action soon and squander away these resource’s built and paid for by those who came before us everyone is going to lose most of all our children. As your County Commissioner I will support these types of programs to promote and preserve our heritage.
Improved Veterans Affairs : We owe our Veterans everything for without them there would be no America. Here in the United States some of the medical care our Vets are receiving is sub standard at best. The Veterans in our area have to travel to far to get the needed care they deserve. I would like to see steps taken to get a Veterans Hospital here in our community on the scale of Bay Pines in St. Petersburg Fl or Gainesville Fl for their healthcare. As your County Commissioner I would like to see if this is possible and work with the commission to try to make this a reality in the future. It will add jobs and prestige to our community and benefit those who have served.
